When I wrote my coffee shop business plan, I designed it for a sit down cafe, with or without a drive through (the mix as I call it). It can be adapted to any of these forms including a coffee kiosk and coffee cart.

Here are some points to consider for each when it plans to open a coffee shop:

Sit down (and mix) – most advantageous if you plan to have entertainment and events. This would usually not considered full-service cafe. Outside of the purist coffee shop that serves only coffee in a few forms, most sit downs serve light foods to full menus, also known as coffee shops. The mix is pretty much adding a drive through window if space permits. A drive through window can add as much as 20% more revenue to your sales because of its convenience.

Drive through (independent) – usually a small fee, you can start to drive through the off-site manufactured by a company that specializes in them for about $ 20,000 or less. Many times you can get a ground lease from the owner of a parking space that does not need all that parking. Be sure to consult with City Planning to be sure that you can do this. There are likely to require a certain square feet of space for employee parking and customer vehicle stacking. “This is a fancy way to say how many cars could be in line with your drive through window on your property and still make it easy to flow into and out, and still have enough space for other tenants in the Plaza. Please note that if your city and / or health department does not allow for portable water and sewage on site, you must install the plumbing and drainage. This can be expensive, but if the site is a prime number, it will offset your direct costs.

You can also find a stand-alone building that can be converted to a drive through. Gas stations and some former fast food places (without a Internal dining room) is good for this. At the service station, make sure to visit your city planning and zoning department to be sure that you can convert it into a coffee drive through. You may have a problem with the car stacking again.

Kiosk – these are great for shopping malls, hospitals, garages or anywhere that you do not have or need a storefront. It is one step above trailer (below) because the kiosk is very much a cafe that can be downloaded and moved quite easily. They are basically a prefabricated, fancy group of counters all connected together. It gives the feeling of an independent coffee shop. A lot of jewelry places and such have these in malls.

; cart – it rather says it all. A car costs from $ 8000 to 12.000 or so to have built. They are also usually in malls, car dealers, hospitals, etc. They have considerably less room than a kiosk but are a good option if you To be in a mall or similar. You normally limited to serving food and pastries that are prepackaged.

Whatever type of cafe you decide to open up, be sure you have investigated and everything is ready to be very immersed in all, it will take up much of your time! Good luck!
