Just bought two pounds for bean coffee, had it ground, now how do I keep it fresh?

I have heard about the benefits of good coffee, but in particular I saw a show on TV that said fresh roasted and ground coffee was actually good for you (in moderation of course). Does anyone have more information about this, or knows anything about what benefits it brings?
Just got a new coffee grinder, looking for some freshly roasted beans here in Cincinnati, any ideas?
I can not find quality coffee beans to grind at home and make my own coffee. The beans at Starbucks, Pacific Coffee is old when I bought them.
