Thousands of coffee potfuls later, failed to work one morning and we knew it was time to buy a new one. When we walked the paths of our local BJ’s, we realized that Braun was not a brand that they are implemented. No carafe! Yes, coffee brews in the main unit and then released into your cup, press a vending machine, much like the kind you find at some coffee shops. The advantage is obvious: you can have coffee with one hand while not worrying that you will break the carafe. An excellent idea! This particular model has normal-sized coffee filter and has an internal warming tray to keep the coffee hot. In fact, we felt that the device kept the coffee warmer longer than most units we had taken earlier. For several days we have had hot, fresh coffee and we thought we made a wise decision to purchase the product. Our interest in the product was short-lived, however. One of the oddest features of the unit was the double-press on / platform to get the unit running. Kind of like a double click of the computer mouse to open a file, the user must do the same thing with the round button on the front of the machine. No switch gears to deal with this! Unfortunately, one recent morning, the switch did not work. Sure, the light came on, but coffee was not disclosed. My wife and I made about the process at least a dozen times before we realized that the machine will not work. The water in the unit, where the coffee is secure in the filter, and switch came. It would be better to replace the switch with something that works first time and every time thereafter. Fortunately for us we could return the item to BJ’s where we got a full cash refund. Hamilton Beach has a good idea, but their technique leaves something to be desired.
