We bought this roaster to replace Fresh Roast we had spent the last 8 years or so. This is a dramatic improvement over what we had been using. We love the uniform roast and the ability to control the smoke, fumes, is something we plan to use in the future. We usually roast in the garage, so it’s not an issue at the moment. I would definitely recommend this roaster to anyone who wants to roast small batches for domestic use. Rating: 5 / 5

I have been roasting my own coffee in almost 10 years now, and I’ve been through a lot of roasters. I have used the Gene Cafe for more than 6 months, and this is holding up well. It is well designed and constructed. It has been quite smooth and shows little signs of wear. It is very quiet for a home roaster, which for me is a big plus. The Gene Cafe to cook up to a full pound of coffee at once. This means that you are roasting less often, which of course will increase the life of the roaster. All coffee roasters produce smoke, and Gene is no exception. Make sure you get ‘Gene Cafe Large chaff Collector “attachment. The last time I saw it was sold with roaster through many online vendors. It can also be purchased separately. This allows for a hose to be attached to ventilate the smoke. I have a fan on my stove-top. The glass roasting chamber allows for full visibility at all points in the roast. This allows you to get the perfect roast every time. The large digital interface allows you to set frying temperature and time to exact specifications. Knobs let you set the time and temperature of the roast at any point. I know the sticker price on this thing is high, but you will save money in the long run by not having to change your roaster every year. Rating: 5 / 5

I’ve been using this roaster for over a year with good results. It is a very quiet and very solid build machine, feels like driving a German car. The controls could not be easier to use. As expected, makes it much smoke, and proper ventilation krävs.En part of the plastic casing started to melt near the exhaust gas, which led me to lower the operating temperature. Power cord heats up a bit during operation. Rating: 4 / 5

  • I’ve been using this roaster for about 6 months now and I cook every other day. Two friends have bought the smaller, and both think upgradeing to this. Given its great. Rating: 5 / 5

  • I had origionally one Fresh Roast Plus 8th It worked very well for me but it could only fry a small amount of beans and you have to wait a while between roasts. I upgraded to a Gene Cafe almost a year ago even though I did not buy it from Amazon. This roaster is great. It is bigger than it looks in the picture. It takes up a great big box in my pantry. You need ventilation or will it set off smoke alarms, but there is no visible smoke. I cook on a covered patio. I use two scoops beans but there are a lot of coffee and you will go through a couple pounds of beans to learn to roast you want. I agree temp. setting constant and varies in time depending on the roast, I want to. For me, 451 degrees for 17 to 18. 5 min. is ideal. But every person and every roaster can be different. The coffee is excellent. I’m getting rave reviews from guests. Rating: 5 / 5
