But the rest of these???  Pardon me, but it&#039;s nonsense to estimate the pH of a piece of spinach or a dinner plate, or an oven mitt.

pH is a measure of the hydrogen ion concentration in a solution.  Therefore you need a solution.  Last time I checked, an oven mitt is not a component of an aqueous solution.
