Coffee giant, Starbucks, boasts that it uses coffee cups made from ten percent recycled material, however, that may not be the case.
Even though the sleeves on them even read, “Help us help the planet”, the Columbus Dispatch reports the cups themselves are not recyclable in most American cities. Steve Milloy, editor of JunkScience. com, says the eco-fraud of Starbucks proves once again the green movement is rife with hypocrisy.

“This is a great example of where Starbucks is trying to be green, but in fact, their products aren’t as green as defined,” says Milloy. “They and the rest of corporate America ought to get out of this business of being green because being green is like being organic, which is just a bunch of nonsense. It’s not helping the planet, it’s not reducing global warming, or avoiding it. ”

    it’s all hype.
Starbucks is no greener than any othe coffee company.

As usual, Milloy is being a moron.

That the cups themselves are not recyclable is unfortunate, but that’s not what Starbucks is claming. The Starbucks claim is that the cups are made from ten percent recycled material. This article does not refute the 10% claim made by Starbucks.

Here’s a better question – is Milloy getting tired of lying about global warming and branching out?

But it sure makes them look good and makes good advertising . . .

If you don’t look too closely that is.

Starbucks is not green. Their (non-organic) milk supports Monsanto and their soy milk is from GMO soy. They are definitely profitable enough to use cups with greater post-consumer recycled content. My suggestion, if you go to any coffee shop, bring your own mug. The travel mugs usually hold 16oz. I’ve tried it at all kinds of places and everyone’s been very receptive and accommodating. Sometimes you just have to focus on what you can do or else it can get frustrating.
