I’m trying to lose 20 lbs in two months. I have been eating 1000 healthy food calories a day, walking 6 miles a night on the treadmill, six days a week for the last three weeks. I have lost ONE pound. . . and I have not cheated. I can see definite muscle tone and my clothes fit much better though. My question is, I started drinking the following daily when I started this diet three weeks ago:

4 oz V8 juice
80 oz hot green tea (nothing added, just tea)
30 oz hot coffee (nothing added, just coffee)
64 oz water each night (while on treadmill)
8 oz skim milk

Is the reason I’m not losing weight because I’m drinking way too much in fluids daily? Does water help you gain or lose weight?

water hepls you lose weight, it’s one of the healthiest things you can put into your body….it flushes out your system and rids your body of toxins. If you have more muscle tone and your clothes fit better, obviously what your doing seems to be working. Muscle weights more than fat, just becasue you don’t weigh less, doesn’t mean you havent lost fat and replaced it with muscle

Water will only gain weight temporarily (only as long as it takes to process it, just like food)… it helps to flush out toxins and let your body work more efficiently, so it will help you lose weight in the long run.

Your body will regulate how much water you retain – if you are healthy. If you are on a diet water helps flush through the waste products of fat metabolism and avoid head aches.

Water has nothing to do with it. Your body is working on attacking the fat and disposing of it by turning it into muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat does. When your body has “done its job” on the fat, you will begin seeing the numbers on the scale drop. Continue drinking the water, etc. and don’t become discouraged. You should be losing inches now and the actual numbers will drop soon. Good luck!

Water helps you lose weight, it flushes all the bad stuff out of your system. You have probably only lost 1 pound because you’re working out so much. Muscle weighs more than fat, and if you’re toning up and your clothes are fitting better, the number on the scales doesn’t really matter. You’re doing great! You’ll have actual weight loss on the scale pretty soon.

The fluids are necessary for body function. They are essentially neutral as far as weight loss is concerned. Any excess is handled by your kidneys……

Three weeks isn’t very long, and your body resists weight change. I would have expected a little more than 1 pound to go away, but not much. Assuming your calorie counting is accurate, I would expect your results over the next few weeks to be much better.

water helps you to lose weight. You may just be feeling blooded from all the water but that can be flushed out

You should be eating more calories today. Someone on a diet should still be eatng 1500-2000 a day.

Drink a glass or two of water before each meal, and constantly. Does the juice have added sugar? If so, switch to an all juice version.

You’re not doing much wrong, perhaps try running, or a quicker walk too.

You’re drinking a little too much, should be around 2 litres for a normal person, nearer 3-4 for you because of the exercise. Try taking out the coffee, or at least cutting down.

As everyone mentioned, muscle does weigh more than fat.

Another thing to keep in mind though is the fact that your body needs a certain number of calories to run. If you have an extremely low calorie diet, your body’s metabolism will slow down to compensate.
Not knowing your height and weight, I can’t say if 1,000 calories is too low, but chances are it is. Try to eat around 1,500 healthy calories. (or do an internet search to find the healthy calorie range that will keep your metabolism up.)

1,000 cals seems too low. If your intake is too low, your body reacts by holding on to weight. I know that doesn’t make sense, but it’s a protective mechanism in case of famine. Try increasing your cals to 1200 per day. Drink as much water as you wish; it will not cause you to retain water. Actually, drinking water has a diuretic effect.

My guess is that you also need to tweak your cardio workout. Here’s a sample elliptical trainer workout that could easily be adapted to a treadmill:

    1. Warm up the first 2 minutes at Intensity Level 5
    2. Minutes 2-3 move from Intensity Level 5 to 6
    3. Minutes 4-5, 6-10 and 11-14 work your way from Intensity Level 6 to Level 9, maintain for one minute.
    4. Minutes 15-19 work your way from Intensity Level 6 to
    5. Level 10 (High Point at Level 10), maintain for one minute.

Repeat 2 – 5 three more times. When you’re at Level 10 (or whatever you use) you should be saying “I can’t do this!” the entire time. If you’re not, you need to increase the level.

    6. Minute 20 cool down to Intensity Level 5 for one minute.

Do this three times per week. You WILL lose weight.

    Loose!!

You are probably loosing fatty tissue and gaining muscle… thus the lack of change in weight.

Don’t worry this is good… if you continue you should start loosing weight…

water makes u gain water weight, but if u work out you lose that weight so its alright. don’t worry about that.
The way not to do it is starve yourself, to start with. Just exercise and eat right. I did….lost 90 LBS because of it. Starving yourself won’t help at all. Drink more water, eat less before bed, and don’t eat for stress are the 3 things I follow and i’m going pretty well if i don’t say myself. 90 LBS isn’t anything like 5-10lbs so take my advice. If you want anymore details, feel free to email me. Just please be patient for ppl seem to email me for advice on this, I will reply, don’t worry! ~Adia
