The first thing I look for in a Coffee shop is good coffee, Starbucks ain’t it!
Second is good service. Not looking for some freaky tatoo’d bitch to serve my coffee. Just a polite girl/guy who speaks english & can make change without reading the cash register
Third would be ambiance, reasonably quiet & peaceful,. I like to read the paper with my coffee. Bring on the jazz player in the corner if you must. I’ll even tip him/her if the music is good.

Good quality coffee that is worth the price which I would hope is reasonable . ALSO a drinkable good tasting cheap coffee for those people who really only want a cup of coffee without having to pay the inflated prices___just a good basic cup of JOE

Well, WiFi is a given. I haven’t seen a coffee shop in a long time that didn’t have it. It keeps people around longer so they’re likely to spend more money.

As far as the shop itself: I like choices of roast/beans. I like a lighter roast and many shops go straight for dark. I don’t like large chains like Starbucks because (like any franchise) everything is the same everywhere. I like variety. As long as the coffee’s good.

Of course it needs to be clean & have good service with well trained & informed employees. I like employees who know more about their product than @ McDonald’s.

One unique thing I’ve seen is a “Regulars” wall. To make regulars feel at home, one restaurant actually lets them bring their favorite mug from home & they’re served their coffee in it. Slight individual touches that set you apart can make a huge difference.

I look for their Roaster. If I don’t see a coffee roaster or at least a sign of one, I know I am in a shop that orders their coffee from somewhere else, which means it will be old and stale….

    Quality of product
    Reasonable prices
    Good service
    Friendly (helpful) staff
The ability to get just a cup of coffee
    Ambiance
    Environmentally friendly

I look for a good product with great service, these are the key influence for me. Although pricing does play a role in purchasing coffee, it has minimal impact on my decision making. Without proper service and friendly atmosphere I would not be inclined on spending any money in such an establishment.
