I myself have visited Starbuck’s and then when I can not find a mom and pop coffee houses, but most people I talk to say that Starbuck’s coffee is not even taste good. I try to go to a small locally owned shop when I can. I have seen so many small business owners in the coffeehouse fold its operations because of a Starbuck’s moves in next to the hotel and those who were once loyal customers of small businesses start to go to Starbuck’s and help to make the little guy. What is the Starbuck’s that people love so much?

Because the only other real “choice” in Boston is dunkin, and they suck.

Easy, it’s the same reason people like anything, because everyone else does, they want to fit in, & it makes them feel “cool”.

    My mom LOVES starbucks,
but I’m not much of a coffee person.

You could use that for anything.
Why support King Soopers, why not support your local ma & pa market,

or ma & pa gas station,
or why even go to borders

there’s ma & pa Book stores.

i think starbucks popularity has a lot to do with marketing a whole image. not only are they selling coffee, they sell a whole “cool image” complete with the environment of their coffee shops, cool cup design, jazzy music playing in their shops, cd’s you can buy with their music in the store.

i agree that their coffee isnt all that it is cracked up to be.

this is a shining example of the power of successful marketing.

There have been thousands of case studies on starbuck’s.

Starbuck’s is a relatively cheap way to feel wealthy. Their entire business model and store atmosphere is designed around it. …And people like feeling wealthy, even if they’re not.

The Mom & Pop type establishements you speak of usually fall short in quality, flavor and strength.

I am Italian, I need my coffee to be as strong as rocket fuel that’s why I choose Starbucks.

Because it is more popular, easier to find, and generally (not always) taste better and have better prices. And from what I have experienced, the folks working at Starbucks are nicer than the people at the mom and pop’s coffee houses.

I have no idea. Their coffee is horrible and overpriced. For a chain, coffee bean is 1000x better.

Starbucks has more of a variety to choose from than a local place. Not to mention according to studies, starbucks coffee has 3x more caffeine than any other coffee. Plus, starbucks has wireless connection so you work, or surf the web while you enjoy your coffee, frapp, etc. But seeing that my starbucks is always so crowded I don’t have time to stop in the am, if there was a mom n pop place local I’d probably hit em up.
