In a bowl cream together: 1 C. shortening 1 C margarine 1 1 / 2 C brown sugar 1 1 / 2 C white sugar 3 large eggs 1 T vanilla extract Add and blend: 1 1 / 2 teaspoon salt 1 1 / 2 teaspoon baking soda 1 / 2 C instant coffee Add to: 5 C flour 2 1 / 2 C semi-sweet chocolate chips NOTE: Dough will be very hard. Using a # 24 scoop, scoop out the cookie sheet. Plate with a glass bottom. Bake for 15-20 minutes until edges are golden brown. Allow to cool thoroughly before removing from sheet.

    Yes, you can cut into 1/3 – it is actually a tripled recipe, and you can definitely use butter.

    That’s what I’ve started doing and telling my mom to do. I don’t know why, but it just seems to taste better? I’m positive it is all in my head, really.
    I’m still thinking of how nice and crunchy they sounded. I do hope I get a refund check in May, like they are promising. I’m getting a standup mixer with it, I think.
